About LNG
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is natural gas - produced from gas and oil fields - that has been cooled to approximately -162°C in order to make a liquid gas suitable for long-distance transportation and mass storage.
Ships have traditionally used heavy oil as fuel. However, by converting ship fuels to LNG, emissions of carbon dioxide (CO₂), considered to be a cause of global warming, as well as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx), which cause air pollution, can be significantly reduced, compared to the use of heavy oil.
In recent years, the use of LNG as marine fuel has been gaining global momentum, thanks to its excellent environmentally-friendly nature.
